The 23 Best Coffee Shops in Paris: A Guide To Café Americano

I’m having a major episode of travel nostalgia, so I figured the best way to mend my wounds is by publishing several guides on a few of my favorite cities.

I lived in Paris for two years from 2016-2017 and 2018-2019. I haven’t been back to Paris or even to Europe since then and I’m starting to feel that itch to take a trip. Hoping it’s in the near future, for now — what you need to know is that Paris is a great city, with many local and unique coffee spots you need to check out.

I came to know the coffee spots well as I worked from my laptop every single day. So, like most digital dwellers, I needed to find a good spot to sit and chill that was outside of my very petite chambre de bonne.

Therefore, my caffeine addiction led me to the culmination of this list. Take a look and get your espresso fix.

Also, this list is only of coffee shops I’ve personally been to — plans to expand and add on very soon.

(A little note, always ask if the coffee shop is ok with your working from your computer. I found that many spots gave it the OK, while others prefer to be sans technology — you know? Asking first will get you in the good graces of the mega attractive French baristas that frequent every shop, it’s kind of ridiculous. Alright, back to the list ⏬) P.S. All images are shot by moi (I can’t resist a good coffee shop photo).

Want more of my Paris recommendations? I collect and keep all my favorite spots in the Step My World app for future reference and to share with friends. It’s free and the interface is simple, minimalistic and easy to use. I usually end up adding a place to my list right after visiting, so I never forget it. You can follow me and check out all my city spots, here.

The Hood

The Hood is one of the coffee shops I frequented most often while in Paris. My friend lived down the street and she also worked remotely, so I would meet up with her to have some company. What’s funny is that I did go to the Hood by myself back in 2016/2017 - the first time I lived in Paris alone - because I had seen it on a blogger’s instagram. While my French was pretty bad, I was scared to stay long and didn’t know if using my laptop would be ok - so I just sipped on my coffee and ended up leaving quickly. Oh how times have changed. Little did I know the Hood is a great place for digital workers — if you can find a seat. Definitely enjoy a coffee while you’re getting your work done, but don’t overstay your welcome!

Grab a coffee and a bite to eat if you’re hungry since they also operate as an Asian canteen.

Address: 80 Rue Jean Pierre Timbaud, 75011 Paris
Paris Metro: Line 2 (Couronnes), Line 3 (Parmentier), Line 5 (Oberkampf)

Wild and the Moon

Very hipster, very chic, some may say overrated (the haters), but I love it. Good coffee and healthy food — you honestly can’t go wrong. They have coffee, juice, matcha — pick your flavor and chill because this place has all the good vibes.

They have multiple locations throughout the city, some are larger than others which makes it easier to find a spot to sit. I’ve been to at least three, but my favorite is on Rue Charlot because this area has art shops and isn’t far from Canal St. Martin, overall just a solid vibe and area to be in. Highly recommend.

Address: 55 Rue Charlot, 75003 Paris, France

Boot Cafe

Boot Cafe is one of those very “Instagrammable” coffee spots in the Marais. One because the cafe is situated in a converted shoe maker store (hence the fitting name) and also because it’s incredibly tiny. I walked by it many times, but never had the chance to go in. Yet, I did visit their 2nd location on the Left Bank.

Very cozy, impeccable interior design and again, good coffee. Do you a see a theme in this post thus far?

I’m not sure if the 2nd location is still open, a simple Google search isn’t telling me much. But, check out their first location at — 19 Rue du Pont aux Choux, 75003 Paris, France

SEASON

Another spot that not only has great coffee, but also tasty breakfast and lunch is Season. Again, it’s in my favorite spot of town — I swear this little radius is the absolute mecca of new Paris.

Try the pancakes, the coffee, the bacon — honestly, you can’t go wrong with their menu.

1 Rue Charles-François Dupuis, 75003 Paris, France

Ob La Di

Quaint, good location - solid cup of coffee. Also, the people working here are incredibly friendly and accommodating.

54 Rue de Saintonge, 75003 Paris, France

Fragments

Ok, so I only had the chance to go to Fragments once — but I absolutely loved the vibe and atmosphere. Of course the coffee was great too and I had a slice of cake to go with it - highly recommend.

The music, interior decor and overall personality of the entire staff - definitely makes it a stop to add on your coffee tour. There’s always a wait, but it’s worth it! Looking forward to visiting this spot again.

6 Rue des Tournelles, 75003 Paris, France

Cafe Pinson

Another absolute gem, Cafe Pinson was a work spot that I frequented often in the Marais. They have two locations, but this one was near and dear to my heart as yet again, it was close to my favorite park and bookstore. Down a side street, it was a great place to nestle in during the winter and people watch.

Another coffee shop doing healthy right, they have many non-dairy and gluten free options.

Edit: Unfortunately Pinson has permanently closed its doors…but, I’m leaving it on the list as a form of tribute to a great coffee shop that will be dearly missed.

OTHER NOTABLE MENTIONS:

These are other coffee shops I’ve been to once or twice and would highly recommend:
